Who wants to know the origins of the Upper Valdarno, should definitely visit the Paleontological Museum of Montevarchi, which is really a window on our past.
As you enter there now, at the entrance there is huge mammoth skeleton with its giant fangs, nicknamed “the Elefantone Gastone“.
Here the visitor has a chance to make a real trip back in time when this area was covered by the waters of Lake Pliocene and later inhabited by animals typical of the Savannah such as elephants, hippos and tigers.
