Montemignaio

In addition to the remains of the castle, called Castel Leone, Montemignaio boasts a parish church that is one of the most remarkable Romanesque buildings of the Casentino, but with the presence of some gothic elements. It seems that the construction was started by the interest of the Countess Matilde and enlarged and completed at the beginning of the XIII-th century by the Guidi Counts. The large bell tower then suggests that originally, at least the lower part, was part of a Lombard watchtower (gardingo).
